KSBY, the Scripps NBC station in San Luis Obispo, CA is hiring a Part-Time Temporary Broadcast Engineer! The Temporary Broadcast Engineer is responsible for working on the day-to-day technical and business operations of the station. Handles day-to-day responsibilities of the IT infrastructure and studio, as well as, assisting with station maintenance.


  • Monitor and report station outages.

  • Assist in the daily troubleshooting and maintenance of the station including but not limited to IT infrastructure (including deskside support), studio support, transmitter support, and distribution delivery.

  • Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of television transmitter and facility issues.

  • Assist with maintaining systems responsible for supporting the on-air operation, such as HVAC, networking, electrical, and mechanical.

  • At the direction of supervisor:

    • Liaise with all cable, DBS, and Telco operators within the market;

    • Proactively engage with necessary third-parties to resolve technical issues in an expedited manner as they arise;

    • Carry out troubleshooting as needed or escalate to engineering support for further diagnosis.

  • ?Perform duties of Master Control Operator as needed for vacation and sick day coverage.

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures including corporate guidelines and best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Associate’s or bachelor's degree preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience in IT and/or broadcast engineering preferred.


  • Ability and willingness to learn, implement, and operate new technology related to broadcasting and content delivery.

  • Strong proficiency with computers to include deskside support of hardware, software and applications.


  • Must be physically able to bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 35 lbs., as well as climb on step-stools, ladders and other necessary equipment.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to transmitter sites and travel throughout the region on an as-needed basis.
